Grocery Shopping, 1/04/10

Those of you who read this blog regularly know that I have two goals for this months--1.) to spend money only for what is needed, not wanted (DH and I each have $20 to spend on "wants" for the month, but no more than that), 2.) spend under $175 for groceries this month as we take part in the pantry challenge and try to eat up some of our stocked up food.

Here is my first shopping trip with those goals in mind:

Dominick's:
1 jar grape jelly = 2.49
2 cans cat food = 1.05
18 ct. eggs = 1.89 - .90 Q = .99
1 pkg. cheese = 2.99
1 gallon milk = 1.99 - 1.00 Q = .99
1 gallon milk = 1.99
1 box garlic/cheese bread = 2.50
1 lb. pkg turkey lunch meat = 3.99 - 1.00 Q = 2.99
1 lb. pkg chicken lunch meat = 3.99 - 1.00 Q = 2.99
4 lbs. fuji apples = 3.77
8 lb. bag oranges = 4.99
2 lb. bag baby carrots = 2.00

Total = 30.47

I spent .95 at CVS

Total for groceries for the week = 31.42

I love your needs vs wants attitude. Once that decision can be made it can really help the finances and cause less friction between couples (something I've been trying to teach my newlywed daughter).
I popped over here from GCC Round Up.
