Frugal Finds - 9/14

My son and I were grocery shopping on Sunday when I decided to stop by Dress Barn. I found three fall/winter tops there on sale. I bought all three of them for $24; the full price was $23 per shirt, so it was like getting three shirts for the full price of one. I was quite happy with that.

Best of all, I will be able to wear these clothes when I attend the Relevant Conference next month. I am so excited to be going to my first blog conference! (Thanks again for 30 Meals In One Day for helping to make this possible. If you haven’t done so, check out their once a month cooking cookbooks with matching software that helps you plan your grocery list and meal plan! You can read my review of their product here.)

I am hoping for some exciting changes on this blog in the next two months. But that is another post to be published a little later.

Frugal Finds - 9/7/10

My cats eat Purina One exclusively, except for the soft food they get in the mornings. I love this brand of cat food, but it can be expensive!

Purina One now has 1.2 lb. bags; these were at an introductory price of $2.29 at one of my grocery stores. I paired each bag with a $2.00 coupon and ended up paying $0.29 out of pocket.

On sale, a 3.5 pound bag of this food runs $6.99; I bought the equivalent with coupons for $0.87. Got to love that!

Frugal Finds - 8/31

I was driving home from grocery shopping when I saw a garage sale selling kids' items.

I saw this Noah's ark play mat, still in its package and had to get it for Delaney. As she is the third child and almost all of her play toys and clothes are hand me downs, she rarely has a toy that has all the pieces, and this one had all of the pieces. In addition, my other two never had a play mat like this.

I paid $5, and plan to resell it after she has outgrown it at the same price when we have our garage sale next summer.

Frugal Finds - 8/24/10

On a tip from Money Saving Mom, I found this Land's End turtleneck and a green one on clearance for less than $3.00. All told, I paid $6.36 to buy two brand new turtlenecks and have them shipped to me. It is a nice addition to my winter wardrobe.

Frugal Finds - 8/17/10

We went to visit my mom for nearly a week and a half, and our mini van was so stuffed with kids, cats and our essentials that we did not have room for much baby gear.

For 10 days one of us was always carrying or holding Delaney because there was no play pen, bouncy seat, baby swing, etc. We do lay her on the floor sometimes, but someone has to sit beside her because while big sister (21 months) likes to come over to hug Delaney, she has also been known to try to lay on top of the baby or smack her on the head.

I went to several garage sales while I was there and was happy to find this baby activity center for $2.00!! The seat pattern dates it a bit, but all the toys are intact and it is in great condition. Delaney can't use it now, but she will be able to use it when we visit in the fall and winter.
Better yet, when she outgrows it, I will be able to sell it in our own garage sale or on Craig's list for more than I paid. That is a frugal find I like.

Frugal Finds 8/10/10

I was only able to go to one garage sale, but I found some things I needed. I got a few more outfits for the baby since she is growing so quickly (.50 each) and two ice cube trays (.10 each). Delaney is almost 4 months old which means I will soon start making her baby food and it is always good to have ice cube trays to freeze the food in.

Total spent--$1.70

Frugal Finds - 8/3/10

I stopped by the grocery store today and found crusted tilapia marked down 50%. I spent $4.50 to buy three packages that fed us all for dinner, and we had leftovers.

Who needs to pay for a dinner out at a fish place when we can have this at home?

Frugal Finds, 7/27

Last week I took advantage of Stockpiling Moms' suggestion to check K-mart for steep clearance toy discounts. I found 4 toys, two for my son and two for my oldest daughter. The one that I liked the best was this Discovery Kids Glow Star Globe.

My son likes geography; his kindergarten graduation project was on flags of the world. I know he will love this toy when I give it to him at Christmas.

I paid $14.99 for it on clearance; it is selling on Amazon for $46. That's the kind of bargain I like. (And it will help keep me out of the stores during all of the holiday shopping craziness in December.)

Frugal Finds, 7/20/10

My son has a strict dress code to follow at his new school. He is required to wear brown or black dress shoes.

I didn’t want to spend much on these shoes because he is all boy at recess and will likely destroy them in short order. Also, he is growing so quickly that if they are not destroyed, he will likely outgrow them well before the year is over.

When I stopped in at Payless a few weeks ago, they were having a sale. I found some brown shoes for $7!! I bought two pairs—one for now and one in a size larger than he is wearing now. Hopefully for $14 I have covered his shoe needs for the year.

Frugal Finds, 7/13/10

When my son and I were out gathering back to school supplies on Sunday, we stopped by Dress Barn. I was looking for some tee shirts on clearance since I have continued to wear my maternity tee shirts since my daughter was born 3 months ago. As I have lost almost all of the baby weight except six pounds, this is not such a good look any more.

Tee shirts weren't on sale, but I did find 6 sweaters I liked on clearance. (Two of them are pictured above.) The full retail cost for these sweaters would have been $177.94. Instead, I bought them for $50.94 or 28% of their retail cost. With fall just a few months away, I now have non-maternity sweaters again. Yeah!

Frugal Finds - 7/6/10

I am starting a new feature on this blog, Frugal Finds, where we can share our less than retail finds.

My youngest is growing much quicker than I would like—she has gained 7 pounds since her birth 11 weeks ago! I had this crazy idea that she would fit into her sister’s clothes that she wore when she was a baby, but that just isn’t happening. So this weekend I hit a few garage sales and found some great stuff!

For my oldest daughter, I found an Elmo outfit (she LOVES Elmo), a pink track suit, a monkey costume perfect for this Halloween, and two pairs of white sandals.

At the same garage sale, I found 4 outfits for my youngest daughter. (I could only take a picture of three of them because she was wearing one.) Since she is still so young, we prefer to dress her in one piece outfits, and these fit the bill perfectly.

I got all of these items for $10. Not bad considering the Halloween costume alone would have cost at least $20, probably closer to $25.
