Dining Out Challenge Blog

There is a scene in the movie Julie & Julia where Julia Child's husband asks her what she loves to do. She laughs and responds, "Eat!"

Eating and enjoying food is what our family loves to do. We love the experience of dining out and trying new foods and restaurants. What we don't love is the high prices.

This year, my husband and I are challenging ourselves to go out to eat just once a week and spend no more than $1,300 for the whole year on our dining out experiences. That averages out to $25 a week (including tax and tip) to feed my husband, myself, my 5.5 year old son and 16 month old daughter (and baby #3, due in April, when she is ready to eat solid foods).

We are going to try to avoid the traditional fast food restaurants that would make it possible to feed a family of 4 this cheaply at a restaurant. Instead, we are going to use a variety of cost cutting measures to meet our goal while eating out at nicer restaurants. Come join us on our journey at our new blog Dining Out Challenge!
