My mom never clipped coupons because she hated the hassle. I must admit, up until about one year ago, I didn't clip coupons either. Now I realize the tremendous savings they can provide when combined with the sale, but I find it very difficult to organize them and keep up with them.
I organize my coupons following Crystal's technique at MoneySavingMom. (Her post is here.) The trouble with this is that I try to get at least two papers a week, and I find it takes me alot of time to clip all of the coupons and put them in the correct envelope. What I love about this method is that once they are organized, I can just grab an envelope, flip through it and see if I have the coupon I need.
I have heard others say that they don't clip the coupons; they keep the inserts together whole and just clip them as they need them. If a person is following a blog that tells her what coupon to use and where to find it for a particular sale, this is a great time saver. (I am all for that!) What I don't like is that if I shop at a store like Tony's or Dominick's that doesn't typically have bloggers blogging about deals and identifying the proper coupon, I have to sort through every insert I have collected to see if I have a coupon for a good sale.
What technique do you use? If you do clip coupons and file them as I do, how do you stay on top of them without it taking alot of time?
